Toilet Troubles

Well, after a pretty successful 8 days of potty training, Ethan has decided he doesn't want to cooperate anymore. It started yesterday with him refusing to go sit on the potty seat. He then had a couple of "accidents" during the day. I thought maybe it was just a bad day and today would be a better day, but that was just wishful thinking. Today was even worse than yesterday! ARGH! I got pretty frustrated with him today because he knows what he needs to do, but he was not going to do it. We have decided to keep pushing it for a few more days to see if he will get back on track, but if it continues to go badly, we might wait another month or so and then try again. I know boys are difficult, but I just thought we could get it done all in one attempt. Sometimes my optimistic approach to life gets trampled by reality! Haha!

Another issue that makes potty training a challenge is that I also have a 4 month old who needs my attention. It is definitely exhausting to spend so much time sitting in the bathroom with Ethan while trying to make sure Elaina has everything she needs. She's so content that she doesn't fuss much, but I feel badly about leaving her in her bouncy seat or on the floor for so long! There are times I just run to the bathroom with her in my arms. We will see how Ethan does these next couple of days. I pray he does well or we will have to revisit this in another month!

Hi! Its been a while since I visited your blog but I love your pics! Elaina is just beautiful! I just wanted to say that we have been going through the same thing with Karis -- from what I hear its pretty normal for them to get bored with going potty. With Karis, it is very evident when she needs to go and that it was just an issue of the will, so I finally had to just sit her on the potty and tell her she can't get up until I see pee or poop. It took a couple of spankings the first few times when she got up too early, but once she sat down again she would do her business in the potty immediately. I know boys are different, though, so I don't know how Ethan would handle that technique. And different approaches work for some kids and not others. But I thought I'd share to at least let you know its normal for them to get bored with going potty :) Good luck!
