We are in the midst of potty training Ethan. I must say, I think it is going better than I expected it to. We started really working at it on Monday. There is a method of potty training where you basically let your child go around the house bottomless to help them recognize when they need to go. It sounds crazy, but I decided that I would give it a try because I know boys can be difficult to train. So, Monday he was bottomless for just a little bit during the day, and he wore pull ups the rest of the day. Tuesday, I decided we would do this for real, so he was bottomless all day except at nap time and when he went to bed. We did the same thing Wednesday, yesterday, and today, and out of all these days being "naked" from the waist down, he has only had 2 accidents. The 2nd time he started to pee, and then he said, "Oh man!", and he stopped it, then we ran to the potty seat where he finished peeing. I was so proud of him for being able to stop and go to the potty seat like we're supposed to! Overall, I haven't really had to clean many messes, and he is actually starting to tell us now when he needs to go to the potty seat. I had been taking him about every 30 minutes or so to just get him to try to go, but today I am trying to go more on his cues. It helps that he's starting to tell us too! I am SO PROUD of his progress so far. He still wears a pull up at nap time and bed time because he goes pee A LOT while he sleeps. I learned that it takes a little while before kids are capable of staying dry while they sleep. If we can get him wearing real underwear during the day, it's going to be so great!
Anyway, I hope I didn't give all of my blog readers too much info, but I just had to share what we've been up to this week. I forgot to mention that he has also gone poo poo in the potty seat 3 times! I'm thankful he's not scared to go like some kids are! We have been rewarding him with M&M's too. One M&M for pee pee and two M&M's for poo poo in the potty seat. I pray that he continues to do well and that I can continue to be consistent with him. By the middle of next week, I plan to put underwear on him! Hooray!
